Why Do I Need Orthodontics?
Orthodontics is a specialty field of dentistry which focuses on the correct alignment of the teeth and jaws. This plays an important role in improving overall oral health. Gaps between the teeth, or teeth that are crowded, turned, or protruded, are the most common signs that a person may need orthodontic treatment. When the teeth do not meet as they should, the chances of getting decay, gum disease and or jaw problems are greater. Also, when the teeth do not meet as they should, tooth surfaces can actually be worn away which could require extensive dental work to restore the worn away surfaces.
When Is The Best Time To Start My Braces?
Dr. Nett recommends that your child visit an orthodontist as soon as an orthodontic problem is noticed, or no later than the age of 7. This may surprise most parents as they tend to associate orthodontic treatment with early adolescence. Although treatment may not begin at this time, it is important that your child be examined to identify any future orthodontic problems. If treatment is not indicated at this time, your child will be placed on an observation program to return in 6-9 months. This program is a no charge program which gives Dr. Nett an opportunity to monitor your child’s permanent teeth as they are erupting and the jaws and face are growing to determine the proper time to initiate treatment. With some patients, early treatment is the only way to achieve the maximum desired results that are attainable once the jaws and face finish growing.
Am I Too Old For Orthodontics?
There are no age limits to orthodontics. More than 30% of our practice is over the age of 18. Many advances in dental technology have made the process easier, more efficient and more aesthetic. This has encouraged more adults to seek orthodontic treatment. If you are interested in having orthodontic treatment, ask our receptionist to schedule an exam appointment for you. There is no charge for this initial visit.
How Long Can Treatment Last?
Treatment can last from 6 months to 24 months depending on the severity of the problem and patient cooperation. Each person’s problem is different which requires an individual treatment plan. It is important to maintain good brushing and flossing habits during treatment. Regular appointments and making sure your appliances do not break can be factors in the length of time your braces are worn.

What types of orthodontic problems does Dr. Nett treat?
As an orthodontist, Dr. Nett works to treat patients with misaligned teeth and/or jaws. Some of the most common types of orthodontic problems that Dr. Nett treats include but are not limited to:
Crowding of the teeth
Misalignment of the teeth such as cross-bites or under-bites
Missing teeth
Spacing between the teeth
How does Dr. Nett diagnose problems and choose the right treatments?
In order to properly diagnose a problem, Dr. Nett would have his assistant, Kathy, take x-rays and make dental impressions of the patient’s mouth. Photographs of the face and teeth are also taken. Then Dr. Nett will review the images and design a treatment plan which addresses your particular needs. If you are missing teeth, Dr. Nett will work with your family dentist to develop the best treatment plan to meet your individual needs.
Treatment times vary from patient to patient depending upon the severity of the orthodontic problem and the length of treatment required to correct the orthodontic problem.
How much will my orthodontic treatment cost?
The cost of treatment varies depending on the type of treatment needed and the time it takes to treat the problem. If you have orthodontic insurance, this would help cover a portion of your orthodontic fee. At NETT Orthodontics we will provide you with a complete treatment plan before beginning your treatment, so you will know up-front how much your treatment is going to cost. We will also work with your insurance provider if coverage is available.
Contact our office at (623) 434-9223 to schedule a NO CHARGE orthodontic examination appointment. We would be happy to discuss all of your payment options or any financial questions you may have.
School will be starting again soon

School will soon be back in full swing. Most people seeking orthodontic treatment have important obligations during the day, whether for work or school. During active orthodontic treatment, our patient’s are usually seen about every 5-6 weeks. Some of these appointments will conflict with work or school schedules. We have put much time and effort into designing our scheduling system to provide you with excellence in orthodontic treatment. Every patient’s treatment will require some appointments during school or work hours. We schedule longer appointments during school hours and shorter appointments before or after school. By doing this, we do not reserve an entire afternoon for one or two patients, but rather accommodate as many families as possible for before and after school appointments. If you prefer to come to our office during quieter time, we suggest scheduling appointments during school hours. Your cooperation with scheduling appointments would be greatly appreciated. We will do all we can to minimize the amount of time you will need to miss work or school. Thank you.

Beautiful Smiles Make A Lasting Impression
An attractive smile is a wonderful asset. It contributes to self-esteem, self-confidence and healthy teeth and gums so you can maintain your smile for the rest of your life. One of the most common questions we hear from our new patients is “how much do braces cost?” The cost of orthodontic treatment depends upon many factors, including the severity of the problem, its complexity, and time necessary to treat the problem. The length of orthodontic treatment, on an average, is approximately 24 months. We see our patients on an average of every 5-6 weeks during this time. Once active treatment is completed, then the retainer phase is initiated. This phase usually lasts 1-2 years. During this time, we will see our patients every 3-6 months. So, overall Dr. Nett will work with each of our patients on an average of 3-4 years. What other fields of medicine gives you the same value for your dollar!!! Orthodontic treatment is a life-long value.
Studies show
that children with nice looking smiles are more popular with their peers and their teachers. These children achieve better grades and are more successful throughout their educational careers. Experts say that this increased success is due to the increased self-confidence and people skills compared to those children with less attractive smiles and less self-confidence. These positive changes carry over into their adult lives and careers.
A recent study shows that adults with attractive smiles were twice as likely to be hired for the same positions as other adults with less attractive smiles. This study took place in an interview setting. Two groups of adults with similar qualifications were interviewed for a job position. The group with attractive smiles had twice as many people invited back for second interviews.
Achieving the perfect smile takes relatively little time or effort and will last a lifetime. Our office will be happy to assist you with payment plans to fit your individual needs. Add it all up— a winning smile, greater self-esteem and a lifetime of good oral health.

A New Year—-A New Smile
Posted by NettOrtho in orthodontics, Welcome on February 1, 2011
As each New Year begins, many people take time to reflect on the year gone by. Some make resolutions to change or improve themselves; others make a list of things they hope to achieve in the coming 12 months. For many peopl
e who aren’t happy with their smiles, a new year can also bring new hope as they consider tuning up their smile with orthodontic treatment. 2011 could be just the year for you to improve your smile.
If you have crooked teeth or a “broken smile” from gaps or missing teeth, you don’t have to suffer any longer. There is a reason more and more adults are choosing to wear braces. A straighter, brighter smile can really go a long way in boosting your confidence. No matter what your age may be, you are likely only a few visits away from straight teeth, and a better smile.
The number of adults who are electing to improve their smile with braces is increasing. In fact, one in five orthodontic patients today is an adult. The truth is crooked teeth or spaces from missing teeth can cause real confidence problems. Some people even avoid smiling altogether to hide their smile. If this describes you or someone you know, then you will be happy to know that you can learn more about how Dr. Nett can “remodel” your smile by scheduling an appointment to discuss your particular needs. With your initial consultation, Dr. Nett will be able to recommend the right treatment for you to get your self-confidence back. 2011 just may be the right time you treat yourself to straight teeth and a smile that really shines! We look forward to working with you!!
